At The Kibworth School we have a team of Governors with a range of skills and experience – some from education, but many from other sectors who bring their business knowledge, experience and professional skills, as volunteers, to support the Headteacher in:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
- Monitoring the educational performance of the academy and its students, and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing the financial performance of the academy and making sure its money is well spent
Our role is to act as ‘critical friends’. We are also responsible for certain key tasks, including the recruitment and performance management of the Headteacher, and play a key role in the school’s strategic direction, in areas like funding, expansion, age-range changes, admissions policy, capital projects and partnerships with other schools. As governors we must also follow a rigorous code of conduct and our performance is measured against this.
We meet four times a year as a full Governing Body and we have several sub-committees which meet as follows:
- Standards and Leadership Committee (meets half termly, chaired by Kate Foster)
- Safeguarding Committee (meets half termly, chaired by Mark Newcombe)
- Resources Committee (meets termly, chaired by Ed Cufflin)
- Pay Committee (meets annually, chaired by Kate Foster)
If you’d like to know more about the strategic role of school governors nationally, visit the National Governance Association website.
If you’d like to meet us in person, we try to ensure we have representatives at school events and activities through the year, both formal and informal, or you can get in touch at any time.
We’re incredibly proud of what the school has achieved to date, under the leadership of Mrs Merry and the leadership team, and there is still much to do, but the future is extremely exciting and we look forward to your support to help us to ensure all our students reach their full potential.
